Before disposable needles, there were Jet Injectors. This is the Ped-O-Jet from the 1960s.

    1. I remember those when I joined the Navy in 1970. One little flinch and the jet ripped your arm!

    2. Those are called disease spreaders. Gave innocent young men hepatitis C when they went to Vietnam.

We got like three of those in boot camp. Hurt worse than needles would have.

Still had em in the 90s. They hurt after the third or fourth one in a row.

Tried telling my wife I’d jet inject her and now I have a double shiner

When I went to Basic Training we got a good number of injections from pneumatic devices. They would tear you pretty good if you twitched while they were injecting you.

    7. In basic training in 1995, this is how we got injections in the Air Force – didn’t know what they were and didn’t ask.. worked pretty well though – and don’t remember it being painful at all though

Are you seriously trying to say we didn’t have any disposable needles in the fucking 60s? Lmao

This is a technology that is still used in some very specific, niche circumstances today, but never reached wide usage because of it’s proven ineffectiveness and potential harm

    9. I got one of those for flu vaccine, when they first came out. Oh Hell No! Never again! 🖕

    10. Theybstill use these in places like Africa rather than use needles for large volume immunisations

There was a testosterone replacement therapy company that tried to market this as their delivery method a couple years ago. The marketing campaign ran on Instagram and it had this guy going “Okay, so this is how simple and painless this is!” followed by what was easily the most “holy shit this is the most pain I’ve ever felt” look one someone’s face that I’ve ever seen. It was hilarious.

Was this the injection the boomer generation received that left the dime sized scar on their upper arm? Small pox vaccine possibly?

    14. I remember standing in a line outside somewhere as a small child with my mother, mildly worried about why we were there and what was coming. Eventually my turn came: it was a booster shot and whoever was administering it moved in fast with one of those things. I cried more out of fear and shock but I did get a lollipop after. No scar.

Fun fact, Jeffrey Epstein also had a pedo jet and used it well into the 2010’s.
